Description:

Four Comic Strips, Original Artwork, 1929 to 1931: "Harold Teen", "Somebody's Stenog", "Toots and Casper", and "Ella Cinders"

A group of four beautiful comic strips dating from 1932 to 1935, from a variety of comic artists including Clarence D. Russell, Paul Robinson, Milt Gross, and Pop Momand. Includes the following:

1. "Ella Cinders" by Charlie Plumb. November 30, 1929. Measures 20.25" x 5.75" (sight), matted to the overall size of 24.25" x 9.75". Distributed by Metropolitan Newspaper Service. Don South visits and offers to score the movie she will be directing. The comic was drawn by Plumb and written by Bill Conselman. It launched on June 1, 1925, and ran until December 2, 1961. Based on the story of Cinderella, it would be adapted into a silent film directed by Alfred E. Green the year after it debuted, in 1926, and starred Colleen Moore.

2. "Somebody's Stenog" by Alfred E. Hayward. August 25, 1930. Measures 21" x 6.5". Distributed by Public Ledger. Titled
"At Blamouth By The Sea", Mary hides out on a floating dock in order to avoid Hezekiah and his imminent proposal. The strip followed secretary Cam O'Flage during the flapper era and was one of the first daily strips to feature an independent working woman as the protagonist.

3. "Toots and Casper" by Jimmy Murphy. February 14, 1931. Measures 18.25" x 4.75" (sight), matted to the overall size of 21.75" x 8.25". Distributed by King Features Syndicate, Inc. In the strip, Casper is involved in a competition with Colonel Hoofer over getting their baby selected by a film studio to appear in a mob scene. Young, stylish Toots married the very ordinary Casper Hawkins, and the couple had a baby named Buttercup born in December 1920.

4. "Harold Teen" by Carl Ed. December 3, 1931. Measures 20.5" x 6.25". Distributed by Chicago Tribune New York News Syndicate. In a comic turn of irony, Harold confesses a transgression to his girlfriend, Lillums Lovewell, only to learn that she already knew. The strip ran from 1919 to 1959 and was likely an inspiration to the later Archie Comics.

Varying degrees of toning to all, with light soiling to some. Pencil marks are visible on a few. Bumped corners.
