Description:

Flown Apollo Spacesuit Pouch with provenance from Apollo Pad Leader Guenter F. Wendt

(1) Cloth pouch, 7.5" x 9" with 7.25" x 5" velcro flap, part of the Apollo spacesuit. Written in black felt tip on pouch: "Flown on an Apollo mission and / later used by me in the White Room / as equipment pouch / Guenter F. Wendt / Padleader." Printed in ink in block letters on outside flap: "G. WENDT."

(2) NASA photograph, black & white, 8" x10". Lightly printed NASA caption on verso dated July 28, 1973. In part: "Kennedy Space Center, Florida, - NASA technician Al Rochford suits Skylab Pilot Jack B. Lousma prior to his launch today with Alan L. Bean and Dr. Owen K. Garriott to the orbiting Skylab space station." The mission began July 28, 1973, with the launch of the three astronauts on the Saturn 1B rocket, and lasted 59 days, 11 hours and 9 minutes.

On this photograph, Wendt has drawn an arrow to the cloth pouch on Lousma's spacesuit here offered, writing "SEE PPK. / G. Wendt / Padleader." "PPK" stood for Pilots Preference Kit which is what it was called by Wendt when he used after it was flown on Apollo.

(3) Autograph Statement Signed "G. Wendt / Padleader," on a 6.25" x 4.5" card imprinted "Guenter F. Wendt / Titusville, FL, USA" on top and "Mercury Gemini Apollo Pad Leader (1960-1975) / Cape Canaveral - Kennedy Space Center" at bottom. Also rubber stamped: "From the personal collection of / Guenter F. Wendt." Wendt penned, in full, "This PPK (Pilots Preference Kit) is From my collection. It was flown on one mission, but which one and on what flight I do not remember. G. Wendt Padleader."
