Five Special Orders 1893-1897 Re: Native American Relations

A small archive of five printed Special Orders relating to Native American relations and conflicts and the Indian Bureau of the Interior Department. All measuring approximately 5.25" x 7.875", Washington, D.C. and St. Paul, Minnesota, dated July 3, 1893 to November 23, 1897. Includes Special Orders No. 55, 65, 87, 138, and 152. Two have been signed by various aids and military figures. An interesting insight into the United States' relationship with the country's indigenous population near the turn of the century. With varying amounts of flattened folds and creasing as well as varying degrees of toning and soiling. One sheet has a few staple holes at the upper left corner. Boldly signed. Good to very good condition.

1. No. 55, Washington, D.C., July 3, 1893. Issued by R. Williams, Adjutant General. Regarding the abandonment of Camp Poplar River in Montana "that the necessary arrangements be made for the restoration of the land occupied by the post to the Indian Bureau of the Interior Department."
2. No. 65, Washington, D.C., November 23, 1897. Issued by Samuel Breck, Adjutant General. Honoring several officers and enlisted men for service in various frontier wars and engagements with Native Americans.
3. No. 87, Washington, D.C., November 24, 1893. Issued by George D. Ruggles, Adjutant General. Concerning the retirement of Brig. Gen. William P. Carlin, who served with the Chippewa and Sioux Indians in the Sioux Expedition, Cheyenne Expedition, Utah Expedition, and on the Pacific coast.
4. No. 138, St. Paul, November 3, 1897. Issued by Arthur MacArthur, Assistant Adjutant General. Signed by Aid William E. Almy and Major Joseph M. Kelley. Listing officers detailed to witness the issuance of annuity goods to Native Americans at the agencies indicated.
5. No. 152, St. Paul, November 6, 1896. Issued by M. V. Sheridan, Assistant Adjutant General. Signed by Aide-de-camp James F. Dean. Assigning Major Joseph M. Kelley to witness the issues of annuity goods to the Native Americans at the Blackfeet Agency due to an illness affecting a fellow officer.

Our shipping department cameras document every package, both outgoing and incoming, for maximum security. In addition, we compare our shipping and handling rates against those of other auction houses, to ensure that our charges are among the lowest in the trade.
