Description:

Fidel Castro Signed Cuba Album

An album signed by Cuban revolutionary Fidel Castro (1926-2016) as "Fidel Castro" in blue felt-tip pen on the front page. The huge signature measures 6" x 2.75" alone and features Castro's two pleasingly symmetrical flourishes. With soft green leather covers, the front cover diced with a pyramid and palm tree design and the words "YPO International Chapter / CUBA" centered near the bottom. After Castro's signature page, subsequent album pages have two spaces for autographs. Inner pages are of thick, speckle tone paper, blank and pristine. Expected wear to the album covers including scuffs and a few cover cracks as well as edge and corner rubbing, else very good. 12.625" x 15.875" x 1.5." Elephant folio. From the collection of Ron Hoskins, assassinologist.

The album is embossed with the acronym YPO, short for the Young Presidents' Organization. This group of young business executives--presidents, chairmen, and CEOs--was originally established in Rochester, New York in 1950. Membership eligibility requirements are based on the age of the executive, the number of employees, and company income. The YPO self-reported in 2021 that it has over 30,000 global members from over 142 countries. There are 22 chapters in the Southeast U.S. & Caribbean region which includes Cuba.

The album is undated, but may date from the early 2000s. This is when an influx of American executives, including Young Presidents' Organization members and their families, began obtaining special licenses from the U.S. Treasury Department to travel to Cuba to tap restricted markets. Castro is known to have attended some of these social events, despite the ongoing U.S. / Cuba embargo. Fidel Castro served as the Prime Minister of Cuba between 1959-1976 and the President of Cuba between 1976-2008.
