Description:

An extremely rare invitation to William Henry Harrison's inaugural ball!

Broadside, TIPPECANOE INAUGURATION BALL. MARCH 4, 1841 (Baltimore: Murphy [1841]), 1 page, 4.75" x 7.25" printed in red and gold on fine stock with an elaborately blind-embossed border and featuring the iconic Harrison log cabin at top center. Two very minor toned spots along left margin, well clear of text, else fine condition.

An extremely rare invitation to the official inaugural ball held for William Henry Harrison, held "at CARUSI'S SALOON, on Thursday Evening, 4th of March 1841." The names of the managers appear in three columns below which include Henry Clay, Daniel Webster, Millard Fillmore, future Union Admiral David D. Porter (as a young lieutenant), the printer Peter Force, and numerous other Washington luminaries.

Extremely Rare. We are aware of only one other example of this invitation to appear on the market. That copy proves quite faded relative to the present example which features very distinct type.

Provenance: The Estate of Charles E. Sigety.
