Eric Sloane Signed "Mr. Daniels And The Grange" With Original Drawing of Geese Hunters
SB

A first edition copy of Eric Sloane and Edward Anthony, "Mr. Daniels and the Grange" (New York: Fung & Wagnalls, 1968), signed, inscribed, and dated by its co-author, American illustrator Eric Sloane (1905-1985), as: "to Flo and / Bill / Adams / From Weezie / and John 1968 / Eric Sloane" on the front loose endpaper. N.p. Sloane has added a lovely black felt tip pen or marker drawing depicting two hunters stalking Canada geese, which leads left to right from the loose endpaper onto the front pastedown paper. Hardcover, in red publisher's binding as issued with gilt-embossed spine, and original book jacket, with clipped left flap. Clean and crisp within, with a bonus Christmas card tucked in the back. The book jacket has some toned or darkened edges with isolated closed tears. The upper text block is foxed and mildewed. Else very good to near fine. Foreword: v-vi; Contents/Illustrations: vii-viii; 3-118; Acknowledgements and Bibliography: 119. 8.25" x 11.25" x 1".

The book is about mid-20th C. conservation efforts to protect The Grange, the Federalist mansion in upper Manhattan owned and occupied by Founding Father Alexander Hamilton between 1802 and his death in 1804. It features many educational cutaway illustrations and architectural drawings of the kind that made Sloane famous.
