Roosevelt Eleanor

Typed Letter Signed "Eleanor Roosevelt," 1 page, 5.5' x 7.75". Executive Mansion, Albany, New York, December 5, 1932. To Mrs. [Edith] Douglas. Lightly toned. Fine condition.

On November 8, 1932, four weeks earlier, New York Governor Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected President of the United States.

In full, "Many thanks for your very sweet letter and good wishes. I was enormously interested to hear that you and your husband were in Mexico City. Somehow it had slipped by me that he was looking after the Southern Pacific down there this winter. My best wishes to you all. You are very good to wish us to come down and stay with you but I am afraid it is out of the question. Perhaps you are near enough to Isabella to have an occasional glimpse of her. Many thanks again."

Walter Douglas, Chairman of the Board of the Southern Pacific Railway of Mexico, was an uncle of Lewis Douglas who was appointed Director of the Budget by President Roosevelt. He and his wife Edith had been in Mexico City since July.
