Description:

Eleanor Roosevelt
Washington, DC, n.d.
Eleanor Roosevelt Signed White House Card
Signed card

Eleanor Roosevelt (1884-1962). Small card printed in blue embossed type "The White House Washington" in the upper right and signed "Eleanor Roosevelt" in blue ink by the First Lady. Measures 3.25" x 2.5", Washington, DC, no date. Evidence of mounting on verso, scattered light spots of discoloration, else a fine example.

Eleanor Roosevelt was one of the most influential First Ladies of the United States, transforming the role during her husband Franklin D. Roosevelt's three terms in office from 1933-1945. Not only a First Lady, she was also an American political figure, diplomat, and activist. She went on to become U.S. delegate to the United Nations General Assembly from 1945-1952. She was an integral figure in drafting and advocating international support for the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights. As a tribute to her work in international human rights President Harry Truman dubbed her the "First Lady of the World".
