Edna St. Vincent Millay was an influential feminist poet of the early 21st century. Living in Greenwich Village in New York City's jazz age she was considered a poet prodigy by the time she graduated from college at Vassar. In 1923 she won a Pulitzer Prize for her poem "The Ballad of the Harp-Weaver" during a period of time when she was in poor health. The letter explains that she had written nothing since that work was published. Although no place is noted on the letter, it is written during the time period when she lived in Greenwich Village at 75 1/2 Bedford Street, notable as New York City's narrowest building.

She writes:

"My dear Mr. Davison,
I am sorry. I have nothing at all to send you for the Forum. Everything I had on hand was published in my new MS. The Harp-Weaver; and I have done nothing at all since that came out.
Sincerely yours,
Edna St. Vincent Millay"
