[Edison Family] Mina & Charles Edison Pair of Signed Checks

Two checks, individually signed by Mina Miller Edison, second wife of Thomas Edison, and their eldest son Charles. Dated September 18, 1917, and January 17, 1927, respectively. Exhibits expected bank cancellation punctures and notations throughout, with areas of isolated toning and tearing near edges. Else, very good. The lot includes:

1.) Charles Edison signed check, dated September 18, 1917, New London, Wisconsin. A note promising to pay themselves (Edison and Mambert) a sum of two thousand five hundred dollars, due January 18, 1918, signed "Charles Edison" as President of the Wisconsin Cabinet and Panel Company, and countersigned by Stephen B. Mambert as Vice President. 3.75" x 8.5".

2.) Mina Edison signed check, dated January 17, 1927, Orange, New Jersey. Check number 18818, paying to the order of the Edison Storage Battery Co. a sum of four dollars and seventy-nine cents. Signed on payer line as "Mina M. Edison". 3.5" x 8.5".

Charles Edison (1890-1969) was the eldest son of Thomas and Mina Edison. A rising politician, he served as Assistant and then United States Secretary of the Navy, in addition to becoming the 42nd Governor of New Jersey. Earlier, between 1927-1957, Charles served as president of his father's company, Thomas A. Edison, Inc., and ran it until the company was sold and merged with the McGraw Electric Company.

Mina Edison (1865-1947) was an American community activist and the second wife of Thomas Edison. The two were married in 1886 in Akron, Ohio and together had three children: Madeleine, Charles, and Theodore. Mina herself was the seventh child of Lewis Miller (1829-1899), a fellow inventor known for creating the first combined harvester with a front-mounted blade.

Applicable shipping and handling charges will be added to the invoice. All items will ship with signature required, and full insurance. Most items are sent via Federal Express, with P. O. Box addresses being sent through USPS. We insure through Berkley Asset Protection with rates of $.70 per $100 of value, among the lowest insurance rates in the industry. Our shipping department cameras document every package, both outgoing and incoming, for maximum security. In addition, we compare our shipping and handling rates against those of other auction houses, to ensure that our charges are among the lowest in the trade.

Upon winning your item(s), you will receive an invoice with our in-house shipping and handling fees included. ***We will ship to the address as it appears on your invoice. If any changes to the shipping address need to be made, you must inform us immediately.***

International shipments: In order to comply with our insurance provider, all international shipments will be sent via Fed Ex and customs paperwork will show a value of $1.00. International buyers should contact our office directly with any questions regarding this policy.
