[Opera]. Catullus. Tibullus. Propertius. Rebound by Bartling & Kimball, Binders, S.F. Printed in Latin. Eighteenmo, unpaginated, with hand-painted manuscript initials throughout. Set in Aldus s italic type (with upright capitals) throughout, the first italic printing type, first used in 1501. Bound in French crimson morocco with elaborate gilt decorations and five raised bands at the spine. Marbled endpapers. With rubbing and wear to the corners and spine. Toning, foxing, dampstaining, and mild insect damage to the internal pages. Overall a beautiful edition.

The poets Gaius Valerius Catullus (84-55 BCE), Albius Tibullus (55-19 BCE) and Sextus Propertius (50-15 BCE) were famed lyric poets of the first century BC. Their works focused on personal matters and day-to-day images, with a particular focus on writing about intimate and familiar subjects such as love, eroticism, rejection and mourning, setting their poetry apart from the heroic poetry of many other, earlier classical poets. This collection of their poetry became extremely successful, with numerous editions being produced throughout the 16th century.
