Early 19th Century Temperance Broadside Printed in Boston on Linen

Rare American Temperance Broadside on linen, 17.25" x 19", stitched at the edges. "A Mirror for the Intemperate," printed in five columns with five vignettes illustrating the hazards of drinking accompanied by verse ("Ode to Rum" and "Father and Son"), essays (Prof. Edward Hitchcock and Salmon Bronson), and speeches (J.Kittredge, a condemned murderer, and an Indian Chief). There are also news reports (Peru has passed a law prohibiting the importation of liquor), and facts (number of temperance societies in New England by state). Imprinted at the lower edge, just with the scrolling floral and leaf border: "Henry Bowen's Chemical Print.:::::::::For N. Boynton, Mechanic-Place, Boston." Undated, but two of the speeches are dated July 4, 1829 and December 1829. Light foxing, minor soiling, folds. Other than tiny pinholes in each corner, there is no damage to the linen. Overall, near fine condition.
