First Edition signed copy of This Is Ike: The Picture Story of the Man, dedicated by future 34th U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower as "To Robert Roslyn and Ronald Filmore, Dwight D. Eisenhower" on title page. Edited by Wilson Hicks, text by Gardner Soule, and published by Henry Holt and Company, New York, 1952. 90pp magazine format softcover book. In very good condition with overall toning, the pictorial wraps in fair condition with minor areas of loss, chipped edges, and light folds. Fine signature. Immediate inner pages with some folded corners and closed tears. The book measures 8.25" x 11".

When this book was published in 1952, Dwight D. "Ike" Eisenhower (1890-1969) was an internationally known figure. He was a 5-star General in the U.S. Army, was finishing up his 13-month stint as 1st Supreme Allied Commander of Europe, and had declared his intention to run for U.S. President.

The prefatory note of the profusely illustrated book describes its purpose as informational: "It is the first book, so far as the authors know, to reveal a presidential candidate in detailed photobiographic form … This book is not an attempt to tell you what kind of President Eisenhower would make. It is not intended to be a campaign book, but rather an objective study … But because so many photographs of Ike exist, and because he is so 'photograph-able', we think these pictures provide a multiple portrait of the man that will enable you to make a valuable estimate of him."

The following text and photographs show Ike in a variety of contexts: playing football, eating hotdogs, meeting world leaders. He is evaluated as a son, husband, father, grandfather, general, diplomat, and civilian. With some pointed concessions to human interest, including a single-page spread showing Mamie's hat collection, and a photo collage of Ike's hand gestures!
