TLS, "Dwight D. Eisenhower", 1p, measuring 7.1875" x 10.375", dated June 5, 1961, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. A letter from the 34th President Dwight D. Eisenhower to Secretary of the Council of Republican Women of York County, Mary A. Lehman. Includes envelope with printed free frank used by Eisenhower to send letter. Two creases through the letter splitting the letter into thirds, great condition, bold signature.

Within, Eisenhower declines an invitation to join the Council at their Lincoln Day Dinner as a guest speaker. In full: "Thank you for your cordial invitation extended on behalf of the Council of Republican Women of York County to be the guest speaker on the occasion of the Lincoln Day Dinner to be held at the Hotel Yorktowne on Saturday, either February tenth or seventeenth. However, I have laid out for myself a schedule of work that is already far heavier than I had anticipated I cannot add to it except under unusual and compelling circumstances. I regret my inability to give you an affirmative answer, and hope that at some appropriate time you will convey my greeting and best wishes to the Republican Women of York County."

Dwight D. Eisenhower (1890-1969) was a 5-star general during World War II, and later the 34th President from (1952-1960). First serving as the Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Force during World War II, Eisenhower orchestrated two of the most consequential military campaigns of the War: Operation Torch in the North Africa campaign in 1942–1943, and the D-Day invasion of Normandy in 1944. Later serving as the 34th President of the United States, Eisenhower worked to prevent the spread of communism and created the interstate highway system. Eisenhower would eventually retire to his Gettysburg farm after his Presidency and passed away in 1969.

Our shipping department cameras document every package, both outgoing and incoming, for maximum security. In addition, we compare our shipping and handling rates against those of other auction houses, to ensure that our charges are among the lowest in the trade.
