Description:

Dwight D. Eisenhower Archive: 8 TLS, Campaign Ephemera, Etc.

An extensive archive of typed letters signed, an autograph letter signed, and a group of campaign ephemera relating to Dwight D. Eisenhower, along with his wife, Mamie, and friends. There are a total of eight typed letters signed by Eisenhower, dating from 1956 to 1964, signed either "D.E.", "Ike" or "Ike E." and addressed to Mr. and Mrs. George E. Allen. Most have retained their transmittal envelopes. With three additional typed letters signed by Mamie Eisenhower and her secretaries. The autographed letter signed is from Mary Allen, relating details of a vacation she spent with the Eisenhowers at the "Summer White House" in Newport. And finally, there is a collection of campaign advertisements and ephemera promoting Eisenhower and Richard Nixon, including a comic book, "magic tissue" cards, pamphlets, printed remarks, etc. With varying degrees of toning, soiling and light wear. Some with flattened folds and/or chipping in places. Overall very good. Please refer to the photographs for further condition information.

Highlights include:
1. Typed Letter Signed "Ike E.", Gettysburg, dated October 22, 1962. Thanking the Allens for a birthday sweater. With a handwritten postscript "P.S. Hope you, Mary, are over the 'flu'. Take care of yourself. D."
2. Typed Letter Signed "Ike", Washington, D.C., dated January 20, 1961. Writing on the final day spent in the White House.
3. Typed Letter Signed "D.E.", Washington, D.C., dated August 24, 1959. Bemoaning the fact that he is "cast in the role of the 'drummer' in the Western European region" rather than spending time in Gettysburg.
4. Autograph Letter Signed "Mary", Newport, dated September 1958. A handwritten letter by Mary Allen, describing a vacation she took with her husband and the Eisenhowers at the "Summer White House", in which Mamie was swarmed with admirers and autograph seekers and the two husbands spent most of their time fishing and golfing.
5. Campaign Ephemera Group: Containing items such as an "I Like Ike" envelope, a United Defense Fund pamphlet [of which Eisenhower was an Honorary Chairman], two "magic tissue" revealing "Eisenhower" as the next president, a "Forward with Eisenhower-Nixon" comic book, typed Remarks by Eisenhower to the United Defense Fund Meeting, and much more!
