Rush, Benjamin (1745-1813) Order to pay from Dr. Benjamin Rush, a Signer of the Declaration of Independence, to an administrator of an estate

Autograph Document Signed "Benjn Rush," 1p, 6.75" x 2.5". [Philadelphia], 1800. On laid paper. Two transparent plastic tape stains on verso show though beneath words which are completely legible. Fine condition.

In full "Please to pay the Above Sum to Mrs / Mary Bright. Benjn Rush / Mr Thomas Stewart / Admr to the Estate of / Charles Beaven." Beneath Dr. Rush's request is penned, probably by Stewart, "Receivd October 1800 of Thomas Stewart and Teringham Palmer administrators to the Estate of Charles Bevan three Pounds." Signed "Mary Bright"

From Merion in the Welsh Tract... by Thomas Allen Glenn (Printed by Subscription: Norristown, Pa., 1896): "Charles Bevan, of Philadelphia and Lower Merion, eldest son and heir of Evan, of same places. He appears to have been engaged in business in the city, and did not reside continuously upon his plantation. He died prior to 28 January, 1800, at which time letters of administration were granted upon his estate to Tyrringham Palmer and Thomas Stewart, of the city of Philadelphia."
