David Ben-Gurion
David Ben-Gurion Writes to a Soldier Via Military Mail

Typed Letter Signed "D. Ben-Gurion" as Minister of Defense, 1 page, 8.5" x 10.75". Stationery of the "Office of the Minister of Defense." HaKirya [Tel Aviv, Israel], October 19, 1948. To "Friend Yehuda Ben-Moshe, Sergeant / Military Mail 230." In Hebrew with full English translation. Fine condition.

In full, "I have read what you write and I can tell you that I share your state of mind which reflects my own. Not only as to the planned congress - in my opinion it is essential that young people be brought into all of our institutions, and not to draw votes in the elections, but in order to revive the movement. There is great value in the experience of senior members - but there is also danger in accumulated experience, as a force that preserves and freezes in place, if it is not tied to a soaring vision, an ability to discern the future and initiative. These characteristics are generally found among younger people, and there is a need for a living movement that will merge the life experience of the older people with the revitalized spirit of the younger ones.

"I do not know whether it is yet time to nominate candidates and whether I will have any opportunity at all to deal with the matter, but I absolutely support the opinion you expressed in your letter. Friendly wishes, D Ben-Gurion."

Present is the original envelope from Ben-Gurion who was serving as Minister of Defense and Prime Minister, 6" x 5", opened at back flap, blank upper right missing. All in Hebrew. "State of Israel / The Provisional Government" imprinted at top left, addressed to "To soldier Yehuda Ben-Moshe, Sergeant, 47907. / Military Mail 230." Stamped at left: "Ministry of Defense" and at right: "Military Mail / Office 3 / 20 X 48."
