DAVID BEN GURION (1886-1973) Autograph Letter Signed " D. Ben-Gurion" in Hebrew, one page, 4.75" x 8." Sdeh Boker [Israel], January 17, 1969. To Ilan [Zeindel], Haifa. On lightweight paper. With full English translation. Light edge wear. Center fold through signature. Fine condition.

In full, "Shalom u'vracha [Peace and Blessings]. I was glad to receive your letter – even though your praises were exaggerated, but I am confident that you said what you said with total honesty. To terminate my literary work with which I am busy now – I need ten years and more and I am not sure that they are in my pocket. But I shall do what seems to me as my duty – as long as I am capable of doing so. With appreciation."

Ben-Gurion's literary work was a planned 11 volume history of Israel's early years. After he retired from the Knesset in May 1970, he devoted 15 hours a day writing in his kibbutz in the Negev at Sdeh Boker. Ben-Gurion died on December 1, 1973, five years after he wrote this letter saying he needed at least 10 more years to finish his literary work.
