Daniel C. Beard 2x Signed TLS, Re: Roosevelt Pilgrimage & "…boys' imagination and love of adventure"

A letter from Beard as National Scout Commissioner on Boy Scouts of America letterhead, sending thanks to one Edmund Seymour for his participation in the annual Roosevelt Pilgrimage held by the Boy Scouts, dated October 29, 1938, New York, NY. Twice signed, the first as "Daniel C. Beard" at conclusion and again as "Dan" with additional inscription reading "Thank you, you/ looked great" written vertically along left side. Printed on verso are eight small illustrations surrounding the organization's "Scout Oath" and "Scout Law". 8.5" x 11". Expected wear, including flattened letter folds and darkened soiling present in areas. Very good overall, boldly signed and inscribed with interesting content!

In full:
"I think I need hardly tell you that one of the reasons the boys so thoroughly enjoy the Roosevelt Pilgrimage ceremonies is the presence of the Buckskin Men with their appeal to the boys' imagination and love of adventure.
I want to take this occasion to thank you personally for your participation in the Ninetennth [sic] Roosevelt Pilgrimage last Saturday, and to express the hope that you got as much please out of the occasion as you gave to the rest of us who were there."

Daniel Carter Beard (1850-1941), nicknamed "Uncle Dan", was an American youth leader and social reformer who, in 1905 founded the Sons of Daniel Boone, a program based on American frontier traditions which he later merged with the Boy Scouts of America. Upon its formation, in turn, Beard became one of the first National Scout Commissioners in the organization, a position he served for 30 years. The Roosevelt Pilgrimage which he discusses was an annual event held in honor of former president Theodore Roosevelt, an active supporter of the organization's ideals, in which the Scouts would hold a procession to his gravesite. As part of the pilgrimage, Beard, along with several other volunteers, would be dressed in full buckskin attire, possibly in reference to the famous photo of Roosevelt similarly clad and holding a rifle.
