Partly Printed Document Signed "C.H. McCormick," 7.5" x 3.25". New York, October 24, 1866. Completed in manuscript. Check drawn on Importers and Traders National Bank, payable to Darling, Griswold & Co. for $248.02."+" cut bank cancellation in left portion, not near signature. 2¢ Internal Revenue stamp affixed at upper left. Fine condition.
Darling Griswold & Co. were the proprietors of New York's Fifth Avenue Hotel, located at 200 Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, between 23rd and 24th Streets, from 1859-1908.
Virginia farmer Cyrus H. McCormick invented a mechanical reaper, then harvested profits in the Midwest's exploding grain belt. His company eventually became the International Harvester Company .
