City of Boston Printed Accounting of Expenses & Income During 1810-1811, Including Rent from Faneuil Hall ~ with an Early Docket Connecting the Piece to John Hancock


Printed document: General View of the Current Expenses of the Town of Boston, from May 1810 to May 1811, one page, 7" x 11", May 22, 1811, signed in type by the Town Clerk, Thomas Clark, with income for the town of Boston (exclusive of taxes) for the same period, as well as income from Faneuil Hall. Expenses total $101,278 which include schools; lamps, oil and lighting; town watch; work on mall and common; bells and clocks; improvements of widening streets; overseers of the poor etc. The income which totals $12,423 includes rent of Old State House; Cellars under Faneuil Hall; licenses to Hackney Carriages; Rent of Stalls in front of Market House etc. An early docket on the verso states "John Hancock's old papers" although the patriot and Declaration Signer died in 1793. Overall age toning, center horizontal fold. Fine.
