A large archive of autograph manuscripts signed and signed letters by author and journalist Christopher Darlington Morley in connection to his friendship with Joseph Margulies. Totaling over 70 pages. The archive consists of eight handwritten manuscripts ["Mlle. De Sombreuil"; "Below Zero"; "The Dope on Toulemonde"; "Old Mole"; "Visit to a Second-Hand Bookshop"; "In Geneva"; "In Modern Dress"; and "Inward Ho!", along with a typed manuscript with emendations, an autograph letter signed, and three typed letters signed. The manuscript pages and letters have with some light toning throughout and varying degrees of light soiling. Bold signatures by Morley. With it being a sizeable collection, we would invite any interested parties to make an appointment to see the archive in our offices!

1. Autograph Manuscript Signed "Mlle. de Sombreuil" - Autograph manuscript signed of an essay entitled "Mlle. de Sombreuil" which appeared in two parts in "The Saturday Review" written in ink on recto of his Green Escape stationary. 14 pages.

2. Autograph Manuscript Signed "Below Zero" - Autograph manuscript signed of his story "Below Zero" which appeared in the Saturday Review for 24 February, 1934. Written on recto of "Saturday Review" stationary. 6 pages.

3. Autograph Manuscript Signed "The Dope on Toulemonde." 7 pages.

4. Autograph Manuscript Signed "Old Mole." 3 pages.

5. Autograph Manuscript Signed "Visit to a Second-Hand Bookshop." 4 pages.

6. Autograph Manuscript Signed "In Geneva" - Autograph manuscript signed of an essay called "In Geneva," which appeared in three parts in the Saturday Review. With usual cross outs and corrections. 22 pages.

7. Autograph Manuscript Signed "In Modern Dress" - Manuscript draft of a pun-filled playlet entitled "In Modern Dress," about an actor who goes to be fitted out before a performance. 7 pages.

8. Autograph Manuscript for Chapter 2 of "Inward Ho!" On top right hand corner of page oner "Having been the innocent occasion of Joe Margolies' losing his pen, I have given him thìs as an attempted recompense." 6 pages.

9. Brief ALS September 2, 1920 with envelope. To "Dear Joe". Signed Keneln Digby Marley. Envelope attached.

10. Brief TLS February 26, 1920. Signed "Christopher Morley".

11. TLS December 22, 1937. Signed "Chris". An answer to a request for Morley to write an introduction to a new edition of PRAYERS by John Donne.

12. TLS May 25, 1944 with envelope. Signed "Christopher Morley. On the occasion of J.A.M. election to the presidency of the American Booksellers Association.

13. Typed manuscript of Margulies' introduction to the new edition of "Parnassus on Wheels". 4 pages.

Unless otherwise indicated, we do our own in-house worldwide shipping!

Applicable shipping and handling charges will be added to the invoice. We offer several shipping options, and remain one of the few auction houses who proudly provides professional in-house shipping as an option to our clients. All items will ship with signature required, and full insurance. Most items are sent via Federal Express, with P. O. Box addresses being sent through USPS. We insure through Berkley Asset Protection with rates of $.70 per $100 of value, among the lowest insurance rates in the industry. Our shipping department cameras document every package, both outgoing and incoming, for maximum security. In addition, we compare our shipping and handling rates against those of other auction houses, to ensure that our charges are among the lowest in the trade.

Upon winning your item(s), you will receive an invoice with our in-house shipping and handling fees included. ***We will ship to the address as it appears on your invoice. If any changes to the shipping address need to be made, you must inform us immediately.***

International shipments: In order to comply with our insurance provider, all international shipments will be sent via Fed Ex and customs paperwork will show a value of $1.00. International buyers should contact our office directly with any questions regarding this policy.

Third Party Shipping Option: If a third party shipper is preferred, the buyer is responsible for contacting them directly to make shipping arrangements. For your convenience, we have provided some recommended shippers. For your protection, we will require a signed release from you, confirming your authorization for us to release your lots to your specified third party. At that point, our responsibility and insurance coverage for your item(s) ceases. Items picked up by third party shippers are required to pay Connecticut sales tax. Items requiring third party shipping due to being oversized, fragile or bulky will be denoted in the item description.
