Goodyear Charles 1800 - 1860 Check signed by Charles Goodyear, whose invention revolutionized the rubber industry

Partly Printed Document Signed "Chas Goodyear," 6.5" x 2.5". Washington, D.C., May 5, 1860. Completed in manuscript. Check drawn on the Bank of the Metropolis, payable to C. Finkermann & Co. for $100. "+" cut bank cancellation in left portion, not near signature. Endorsed on verso: "C. Finkmann & Co." Fine condition.

Although Charles Goodyear invented the vulcanization process that made possible the commercial use of rubber, making millions for others, his patents continued to be infringed upon. At his death on July 1, 1860, less than two months after he wrote this hundred dollar check, Goodyear left debts of $200,000.
