A press badge signed by famed American aviator Charles A. Lindbergh (1902-1974), as "C.A. Lindbergh" along a diagonal in the upper left corner of the diamond-shaped pass. The admission ticket granted access for the "Lindbergh Reception / Admit Bearer To Enclosures / As A Member Of / Press And Newspaper Photographers Staff / Aviators' Celebration" that took place in Boston, Massachusetts on July 22, 1927. The badge is printed on heavy dark blue stock card, hole-punched to accommodate a string loop at top. Expected wear including scuffs verso. 4.25" square. Accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity from RR Auction (Amherst, New Hampshire.)

Accompanying the badge is a 1p typed letter signed by H. Allan Sullivan noting that: "Colonel Lindbergh was in the office today and he autographed the press tag for Mr. Daily. I am enclosing the tag and trusting you will take care of the deliver to him…" March 16, 1928. [New York, New York.] On watermarked stationery with "The Daniel Guggenheim Fund for the Promotion of Aeronautics, Inc." embossed at the letterhead. The letter was addressed to George H. Johnson, Director of Public Celebrations for the City of Boston, who had met Lindbergh at the Boston event. Expected wear including flattened paper folds and isolated stains, else near fine. 8.5" x 11."

The Daniel Guggenheim Fund for the Promotion of Aeronautics was established by Daniel and Harry Guggenheim in June 1926 to promote aviation. The Fund distributed $3 million in research grants to U.S. universities, from New York to the Midwest to California, over the period 1926-1930. The Fund also sponsored Lindbergh's triumphant 4-month-long publicity tour across the United States following his record-breaking solo non-stop transatlantic flight from New York to Paris in late May 1927. Between July 20 - October 23, 1927, Lindbergh visited 82 cities in the contiguous United States, beginning in the East Coast and working his way west, traversing over 22,000 miles aboard "The Spirit of St. Louis." At such stops, Lindbergh delivered over 140 speeches underscoring the importance of aviation.

Lindbergh flew from Providence to Boston on July 22, 1927. In Boston at the airport, and in the city streets, at Boston Common, and the State House, Lindbergh was feted by approximately 750,000 spectators, all shouting "Lindy!" according to one contemporary newspaper. Lindbergh, escorted by the Governor of Massachusetts and the Mayor of Boston, listened to welcome speeches and singing performances; accepted honors and gifts; and viewed a military parade. Lindbergh met the letter recipient Johnson during the course of the day's events. Boston's honors was just one of many decorations Lindbergh received in that magical year of 1927: President Calvin Coolidge awarded him the Distinguished Flying Cross in June 1927, and the U.S. Congress gave him the Medal of Honor in December 1927.
