Description:

Charles Dickens' Strands of Hair, Beautifully Presented

This collection of three strands of hair mounted in plastic is derived from the John Reznikoff Hair Collection. His collection was certified in 2014 by The Guinness Book of World Records as the largest Hair Collection. The strands are encapsulated and handsomely presented on an 8.5" x 11" sheet of card stock alongside an image of Dickens and an autograph note signed by Georgina Hogarth. The original lock was passed down through the Hogarth family line and was owned by Georgina. She had signed a letter stating "I certify this Lock Of Hair to be that of my Brother-in-Law, Charles Dickens / Georgina Hogarth". Dickens had married Catherine Hogarth, who had left him in 1858. He was very attached to Catherine's sister, Georgina, who sided with Dickens during his separation from Catherine. Georgina lived with Dickens from 1842 until his death, which incited scandalous, but unfounded rumors about Dickens' relationship with her.

Hair collecting was a proper, and very personal, way of remembering someone, and began during the Victorian era. It predated photography and was superior to autograph collecting as it better connected the person with the owner. A full letter of authenticity from John Reznikoff, a noted expert in the field, and a copy of the Guinness Book of World Record page, noting Reznikoff's collection are included. A unique relic that directly links us to the personage of Charles Dickens.

This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
