Charles A. Lindbergh Signed 1939 Missouri Ticket Stub Souvenir
Signed ticket/invitation

A ticket stub boldly signed by American aviator Charles A. Lindbergh (1902-1974) as "C.A. Lindbergh / July 1, 1939" along a vertical orientation near the right edge. July 1, 1939. [St. Louis, Missouri.] The ticket stub, No. W-1991, is printed on pale blue paper, and entitled "Souvenir of Your Flight with Orville E. Scott (Scotty) Pioneer Pilot of Lambert Field, St. Louis, Mo." It shows an image of Pilot Orville E. "Scotty" Scott at center recto, surrounded by relevant licensing, contact, and services information. The printed verso features information about the aircraft, Scott's aviation career, and a liability waiver. The stub has a perforated left edge. Expected wear including well-creased folds and a few extra wrinkles and isolated closed tears. Else very good. 5.125" x 3.5." Accompanied by a vintage gelatin silver photograph showing Charles A. Lindbergh at right and Orville E. Scott at left. A few light wrinkles but remarkably well-preserved, 3.125" x 5.125."

The July 2, 1939 issue of "The St. Louis Post-Dispatch" reported that Charles Lindbergh had visited St. Louis one day earlier, on July 1st, at which time he autographed this ticket stub. While he was in town, Lindbergh caught up with old friends, including Orville E. Scott, from his days in the Midwestern mail service. Scott, a licensed pilot since 1919, was one of the first flyers out of Lambert Field, and he later managed the airfield.

Lindbergh had also flown in to St. Louis in early July 1939 in order to review local airplane installations as part of a nation-wide survey he was undertaking. He reviewed the personnel and equipment of his old flying outfit, the 110th Bomb Squadron, 35th Division Aviation, Missouri National Guard (the 110th BS is now dubbed "Lindbergh's Own.") Lindbergh had become an officer in the 110th BS in the mid-1920s, and he was still affiliated with them when he completed his record-breaking solo non-stop transatlantic flight between New York to Paris in May 1927. Please see the attached newspaper clipping for reference.
