In full, "By this letter we have the pleasure to inform you that for the year 1938 your position is being classified as Senior Worker. Your salary shall be 28 pounds per month. This includes a 2 pound supplement because you are married."

A month earlier, an article by Dr. Hirshberg, in Hebrew, was published before the Third Congress of the Palestinian Chemical Society. Titled "The Chemist in the Building of the Land of Israel," Dr. Hirshberg wrote, in part, "Here in the Land of Israel, the great role of the chemist in the development of the economy has not yet been made clear to the public at large or even to the relevant institutions and associations. The congress of chemists will have to raise the question of the establishment of bold and systematic relations between chemists and people engaged in the economy and in settlement organizations."

British businessman and Zionist Israel Sieff (later Baron Sieff), after the recent death of his teenage son Daniel in 1932, with the financial support of his business partners and family, endowed the creation by chemist Chaim Weizmann in 1934 of the Daniel Sieff Research Institute. It was renamed the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel's first President's honor on November 2, 1949, in agreement with the Sieff family.
