Carlotta Monterey (1888-1970) was a stage and film actress and first wife of playwright Eugene O'Neill. Born Hazel Neilson Taasine, she studied acting with Sir Herbert Beerhohm Tree and adopted her new name upon returning to the U.S. at the start of WWI. Although her acting received mixed reviews, she was widely admired for her looks. She married Eugene O'Neill in 1929, having met him on the set of his play "The Hairy Ape" in 1922.
