ALS
Carl G. Jung (1875-1961). Autograph Letter Signed, "C.G. Jung", 1p, in German, on his personal letterhead, 8.25" x 5.875", Kusnacht-Zurich, Switzerland, August 10, 1946. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope addressed in Jung's hand, postmarked from Bollingen on August 12, 1946. With expected light folds and creases. Minor scattered ink smudges. Includes full translation. In near fine condition.

Jung writes to his mentee, Dr. Rivkah Scharf Kluger, translated from German: "Dear Doctor! I am sorry that I have not had a chance to thank you for your meaningful and beautiful birthday present before now. I was very happy to receive it, and I will be even happier when I finally have the time to read it. Lately, I have been very busy with my lectures for Eranos. They turned out much more ambitious than I had anticipated, and much longer as well. This year, the crowd will not get to hear any 'childish' fairy tales. Everything is theoretical and abstract. I hope you have been on vacation too or are getting ready for England! / Warmest greetings..."

Eranos is an intellectual discussion group dedicated to humanistic and religious studies, as well as to the natural sciences. The group has met annually since 1933. At Eranos in 1945, Jung was given a Festschrift, which is a book honoring a respected person, especially an academic, and presented during their lifetime. The volume generally contains contributions from the honoree's colleagues, former pupils, and friends.

Jung is one of the most pioneering psychoanalysts of the 20th century, with his influence extending to literature, anthropology, religious studies, and psychiatry. Jung was also an artist, craftsman, builder and prolific writer. Many of his works were not published until after his death and some are still awaiting publication. Jung founded the C.G. Jung Institute in Zurich, Switzerland in 1948 to provide training and conduct research in analytical psychology and psychotherapy. He led the Institute until the year of his death. In 1979, the Institute moved to its present location in Kusnacht, a few miles south of Zurich.

Rivkah Scharf Kluger (1907-1987) was a Swiss psychoanalyst who was born in Bern but lived in Zurich from the age of two. She received her doctoral degree in Semitic Languages and Religious History from the University of Zurich. Kluger trained directly with Carl G. Jung while in graduate school. Her dissertation on "Satan in the Old Testament" was later published as a book. Kluger practiced for many years in Los Angeles and taught seminars all over the world on mythology and biblical stories. She moved with her husband to Israel in 1969, where she continued practicing and teaching at various Jungian training centers.
