CALVIN COOLIDGE (1872-1933) Partly Printed Document Signed " Calvin Coolidge" as President and " Charles E. Hughes" as Secretary of State, 1 page, 23" x 19". Washington, D.C., June 5, 1924. Completed in manuscript. Blind embossed 3.5 inch diameter Seal of the United States with scalloped edge, affixed at the left. Vertical fold in blank right edge. Fine condition.

In part, "Know ye, that reposing special trust and confidence in the abilities and integrity of Thomas M. Wilson of Tennessee, I have nominated and, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, do appoint him a Consul of Class four of the United States of America and do authorize and empower him to have and to hold the said office, and to exercise and enjoy all the rights, privileges and immunities thereunto appertaining..."

Thomas M. Wilson (1881-1967) served as U.S. Consul in Hankow, China (1919-1920) and in Madras (1921-1922) and Bombay (1922-1923) India, as U.S. Consul General in Sydney, Australia (1938-1940), and as U.S. Minister Resident/Consul General in Iraq (1942-1943).

Charles Evans Hughes (1862-1948) served as Secretary of State under Presidents Warren G. Harding and Calvin Coolidge (1921-1925). The former Governor of New York (1907-1910), Supreme Court Associate Justice (1910-1916), and Republican nominee for President (1916), later served as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court (1930-1941).
