Description:

Cody William

Buffalo Bill, William Cody ALS to His Poster Lithographer

Single page autograph letter signed, on Buffalo Bill's Wild West Decorative Letterhead. Dated "Sep. 15, 1894", and signed by William Cody as "Wm. Cody". 8" x 11".  Outstanding presentation, having been framed with a fantastic sepia toned print of Cody, and a brass plaque to a completed size of 31" x 22". Letter near fine with a slightly rubbed and nicked frame.

1894 was an important year for Cody. His Wild West business was booming, with the success propelling him into other business investments and business. This was the year he founded The W. F. Cody Transportation Co. was started and in addition, he embarked on his Wyoming life and promised to build an irrigated empire along the Shoshone River that would be larger than any such enterprise the West had ever seen. The letter is addressed to A. Hoen & Co, the esteemed lithographer, who is widely considered to represent the pinnacle of Golden Age color stone lithography, as well as the most desirable Buffalo Bill posters.  Given how flush with cash Cody was at the time, it begs the question about the nature of the letter and why he would ask for arrangements on his personal account for payment to his lithographer, however by conjecture, he may have just made his large capital investment on some of his new ventures…
