Also included is an envelope engrossed in Tarkington's hand. 3 pieces total.

The lot is comprised of:

1. A portrait of Tarkington excised from the Seawood Edition of Tarkington's "The Works of Booth Tarkington" signed by him as "Booth Tarkington" just outside the image at lower right. The black and white frontispiece photograph shows Tarkington in a fur-collared striped coat and is signed in the negative. Moderately toned, else near fine. 5.25" x 8.375."

2. Two pages from the Seawood Edition of Tarkington's "The Works of Booth Tarkington" being the half title page and the limitation page, 124 of 1075. Expected wear and distress, else near fine. 5.25" x 8.375."

3. A postage-cancelled envelope postmarked from Indianapolis, Indiana on January 2, 1925 inscribed in Tarkington's hand with the recipient's information as "Mrs. Henry Cole Quinby / 200 West 58th St. / New York / N.Y." The envelope is letter-opened and inscribed "Letter from / Booth Tarkington" at lower left.

Florence Quinby was the widow of Henry Cole Quinby (1872-1922), the Harvard University-trained lawyer and amateur genealogist whose father, Henry Brewer Quinby, served as Governor of New Hampshire from 1909-1910.

Booth Tarkington dabbled in politics before committing full-time to novel-writing. His books "The Magnificent Ambersons" and "Alice Adams" painted portraits of Midwestern life between the post-Civil War and post-World War I periods and won the Pulitzer Prizes in Fiction in 1919 and 1922 respectively.
