Description:

Bob Gainey Bloodied Game-Worn Jersey! 1978-79 MEARS A10

Home white knit gamer by Maska worn by Bob Gainey during the 1978-79 NHL season, playoffs and Stanley Cup Finals. The game wear on this sweater is tremendous, consisting of stick and slash marks, board burns, loads of familiar board paint transfer from the old Forum in Montreal, un-repaired friction burn holes, slash gashes, overall trauma, stitch pops, washed out bloodstains, fine inner pilling and roughly 80 plus team-sewn repairs! Displayed are photo matches of Gainey wearing this exact jersey while hoisting the Stanley Cup in 1979 from an issue of The Hockey News 1980 Yearbook.

Included is a MEARS Letter of Opinion grading the jersey an A10 marking it's evident use as "Heavy".

This jersey sold in Gamewornauctions.net in 2016 for $10,834.74.

Bob Gainey was a versatile defensive wing and forward who played an instrumental role in a Canadiens dynasty that dominated the late 70's, reeling in an impressive 4 straight Stanley Cups from '76-'79. A 4-time all-star and  Conn Smythe winner in '79, Gainey was hardly a prolific scorer -- finishing with only 239 goals and 501 points in 1,160 NHL games. What he did better than any forward of his generation, however, was shut down the opposition's prolific goal scorers. The prestigious Frank J. Selke Trophy was created to honor Gainey, and as such he captured it in its first 4 years of existence. He would spend all 16 years of his playing career with Les Habitants, and was elected to the NHL Hall of Fame in 1992 during his first year of eligibility.
