Bill Clinton on "abortion and the separation of church and state ... Your candor means a lot to me."

TLS, Washington D.C., dated September 25, 1995, written on "The White House" stationery and addressed to Gloria O'Donnell. O'Donnell was a member of his original campaign for Congressman in the mid-70s and later during his governmental years in Arkansas. Following O'Donnell's role on Clinton's Arkansas campaigns, the two would remain pen pals well into his presidential years and beyond. This letter comes directly from her collection. Accompanied by original White House mailing envelope. 6.75" x 8.75".

In full:

"Dear Gloria:

Thanks for the birthday card and for your letter of September 12. I had a wonderful birthday and really appreciate your remembering it.

I was so sorry to hear of your mother's death. Having lost my mother, I understand the depth of loss you feel and can only hope you will be comforted--as I have been--by the love and support of your family and friends.

I also appreciate your sharing your thoughts about welfare reform, abortion, and the separation of church and state. As always, I value your insight and am glad you took the time to let me know how you feel. Your candor means a lot to me, as does your continuing support for our efforts here.

Thanks, again, for writing. I hope to see you soon.

Sincerely,

Bill Clinton"
