Bernard Law Montgomery, Superb Signed Book "Normandy to the Baltic" About 21st Army Group
Signed book
A signed copy of "Twenty First Army Group: Norman to the Baltic" written by Montgomery and published in Germany, 1946 "...for the private circulation of the British Army of the Rhine." 279pp. thick 8vo. (5.75" x 8.75"), boldly signed on the first free endpaper: "Montgomery of Alamein Field-Marshal." Bound in red linen with gilt accents at cover and spine. With worn dustjacket. A few pages within have been excised, otherwise in very good condition.

The 21st Army Group was established in London in 1943 under SHAEF and comprised two field armies and other supporting units from the British Second Army and First Canadian Army. It participated in numerous critical missions such as Operation Overlord, the Western Allied Invasion of Europe, and in Northern France, Luxembourg, and Belgium; however it may be best remembered for its role in the imminent 1945 Allied invasion into the heart of the Third Reich called Operation Plunder. In his memo published just before this mission, Montgomery wrote the memorable turn of phrase are "Over the Rhine, then, let us go. And good hunting to you all on the other side," as well as the bold and invigorating statement, "…The complete and decisive defeat of the Germans is certain; there is no possibility of doubt on this matter."

Field Marshal Bernard Law Montgomery, 1st Viscount Montgomery of Alamein (1887-1976) was a career soldier who saw action during World War I, the Anglo-Irish War, the Arab revolt in Palestine, and most significantly during World War II, where he commanded British forces in both the European and African theaters.
