Berlin Wall Relic Purchased Less Than 1 Month After Wall Fell, With Declaration of Authenticity & Origin From Hyman Products
Relic

An authentic fragment of the Berlin Wall sourced by Hyman Products, Incorporated (Maryland Heights, Missouri), and purchased from Bloomingdale's Department Store on December 8, 1989, less than one month after the wall fell in East Germany on November 9, 1989. The grayish concrete fragment studded with small stones measures approximately 2" x 1" x 1.25" and weighs 28 grams, or 1 ounce. It is housed in a black velvet drawstring pouch and original cardboard box entitled "The Berlin Wall: Authentic Berlin Wall Cuts, 1961-1989, An Historic Artifact, Item #A0155." The base of the box bears a partial retail sticker as well as the pen-inscribed date as "Dec 8th 1989." The box measures 3.125" x 5.25" x 3.25." The fragment comes with provenance material including: a Declaration of Authenticity and Origin; A Declaration of Origin, being a facsimile of the original delivery receipt dated November 25, 1989; and a double-sided informational booklet.

"Grip the artifact and in your hand is the past and the future. Let your fingers wander slowly across its battered surface… You can feel the distant tremor of tomorrow's history gently unfolding in the palm of your hand…" - Berlin Wall informational booklet

The Berlin Wall was erected in 1961 to demarcate the division between Free West and the Communist East zones. The Berlin Wall fell on November 9, 1989. Souvenir-hunters and protestors - called "wallpeckers" - did much to informally dismantle the wall over the next few weeks. The Berlin Wall was officially demolished in June 1990, thus destroying the closest physical manifestation of Winston Churchill's "Iron Curtain."

This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
