Benjamin Harrison was the 23rd president of the United States, serving from 1889 to 1893. He was a member of the Harrison family of Virginia - a grandson of the ninth president, William Henry Harrison, and a great-grandson of Benjamin Harrison V, a Founding Father. A Union Army veteran and a Republican, Harrison defeated incumbent Grover Cleveland to win the presidency in 1888, but was defeated for a second term by Cleveland in 1892.

Whitelaw Reid (1837-1912) was an American politician, diplomat and newspaper editor. Reid was the Republican party's nominee for Vice President of the United States in the 1892 election. In 1898, President William McKinley appointed him to the American commission that negotiated peace with Spain after the Spanish-American War.

Dr. Charles Ellis Stevens (1853-1906) was widely written and read as an authority on Constitutional Law from New York. In 1894, he wrote Sources of the Constitution of the United States, which compares the text of the Constitution to the colonial charters and governments before the Revolution as well as English Common Law and the history of the British Empire. Stevens was a pastor of both Presbyterian and Episcopal Churches and was decorated by the countries of England and Spain.
