Franklin Benjamin

Land deed on vellum, 15.5" x 13.5". Neatly inscribed recto and verso. Dated "the eleventh day of June in the year of our Lord One thousand Seven hundred and eighty seven.", and boldly and neatly signed by Benjamin Franklin as "B Franklin", to the left margin with his characteristic flourish. Docketed in several place to verso. Three embossed applied seals present, one on verso and two on recto as the Seal of the State of Pennsylvania. An unusually well preserved example with strong contrasting ink. Slight overall toning, with one of the points to the state seal missing.

 

A handsome and well-presented example of a Benjamin Franklin signed land grant, as shown in part below:

 

"In consideration of the monies paid by George Salliday into the Receiver Generals Office of the late Proprietors … the sum of Sixty Nine pounds seven shillings and nine pence lawful money …  is granted … a certain tract of land called "George's Fancy".

In Witness whereof His Excellency Benjamin Franklin Esq. President of the Supreme Executive Council that hereto set his hand and … state seal …

B Franklin".

 

Examples of Franklin signed land grants are highly sought after. This one is in highly superb collectible condition.
