Mr Disraeli will obey Her Majestys command, + have the honor of attending the ceremony of the marriage of H.R.H. the Prince of Wales with H.R.H. the Princess Alexandra of Denmark, on Friday, the 10th March."

Accompanied by a period Mayall Studios sepia colored carte de visite portrait depicting Disraeli reading while seated in a chair. Stamped "Photographed From Life By Mayall, 224 Regent Street, London, Published by Marion Son & Co., 22 & 23 Soho Square, London" verso. Minor possibly tape residue to left edge, else near fine, overall measuring 2.5" x 4".

His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales, the future Edward VII (1841-1910), became engaged to Princess Alexandra of Denmark (1844-1925) in September 1862. The pretty and sweet-natured teenager had been extensively vetted by royal family members prior to her selection as bride-to-be.

Edward and Alexandra were wed in St. George's Chapel at Windsor on March 10, 1863. Ceremony attendees included members of the British and Danish royal families as well as influential politicians like Benjamin Disraeli. Noted authors Dickens, Thackeray, and Tennyson were invited, as was Swedish opera singer Jenny Lind.

Highlights of the ceremony included Alexandra's spectacular Belgian silk, lace, and tulle gown with a 21-foot-long train, and the 80 lb. St. George's Hall wedding cake elaborately decorated with coats of arms and flowers.

Disraeli had been a Tory/Conservative member of British Parliament since 1837. He served two terms as British Prime Minister, the first in 1868 and the second between 1874-1880. Benjamin Disraeli lived at 1, Grosvenor Gate at the intersection of Park Lane and Upper Grosvenor Street, London between ca. 1839-1872.

Aspiring British photographer John Jabez Edwin Mayall (1813-1901) perfected his knowledge of daguerreotypes in the United States before embarking on a successful studio career in London. Mayall produced a series of carte de visite portraits of the British Royal Family that proved extremely popular, especially after the death of Prince Consort Albert.
