Ben-Gurion Correspondence with Poet Baruch Rothman, Who Wrote "As Tall As a Rock" for the Diminutive Ben-Gurion

ALS in Hebrew, one page, lightly-lined, 4.5 x 8.5, November 13, 1968. Letter of thanks to poet Baruch Rothman, who had previously sent a poem to Ben-Gurion.

In full (translated): “Greetings, Please accept my honest gratitude for your kind words of friendship and your pleasant poem. If I had the talent I would have replied with a short poem of my own but I do not have the talent for it.” In very good condition, with uniform toning, slight loss to right edge, scattered creases, and reinforcement to punch holes to right side. Accompanied by a letter from Rothman to Ben-Gurion, also in Hebrew, and reads in part (translated): “As one of your thousands of admirers, on the holiday of your 82nd birthday, I would like to wish you a long life and good health up to your 120th birthday. You, comrade Ben-Gurion, are a symbol for the entire nation, one of the first layers of our countries foundations and its managements with a sure hand, wisdom and talent for so many years. You will forever hold the first rights. Your eyes will witness the fulfillment of your grand vision and all your aspirations, the settlement of the wastelands, the blossoming of the Negev, the expansion of science, great immigration and the rise of moral standards and virtue in the nation.…Attached is the poem [not included] ‘As a tall rock" which I wrote for you on your 80th jubilee and was printed in 'Mabat-Hadash’ [New View] issue 57 September 1966. I imagine that my poem was a drop in a sea of greetings you received at the time…”
