A collection of five items individually signed by notable Marines present at the Battle of Iwo Jima, all except one having received the Medal of Honor for their actions. Various places, various dates, consisting of 3 index cards and 2 first day covers. Highlighted autographs include Holland "Howlin Mad" Smith and Franklin Sigler, among others. Exhibits degrees of light age toning, creasing, and general handling wear throughout. Pencil docketing present on verso throughout. Otherwise, very good overall condition.

The lot includes, in order of last name:

1.) Robert Dunlap (1920-2000) signed index card, inscribed with rank as "Major Robert H. Dunlap/ C.M.H.- Iwo Jima 1945". Received the Medal of Honor for heroism during the Battle of Iwo Jima. Card measures 5" x 3", PSA encapsulated to an overall size of 7.25" x 4.25".

2.) Rufus Herring (1921-1996) index card signed with rank as "Rufus G. Herring/ Lt. Cmder. U.S.N.R. (Ret.)/ C.M.H." Received the Medal of Honor for actions during the Battle of Iwo Jima. Card measures 5" x 3", PSA encapsulated to an overall size of 7.25" x 4.25".

3.) Joseph J. McCarthy (1911-1996) index card signed with rank as "Joseph J. McCarthy/ Col. U.S.M.C.R. (Ret.)/ M.O.H.- Iwo Jima/ 4th Mar. Div. 1945". In addition to receiving the Medal of Honor, McCarthy was also awarded a Silver Star and two Purple Hearts. Card measures 5" x 3", PSA encapsulated to an overall size of 7.25" x 4.25". Please note that the PSA label has misidentified the subject as "Joseph C. McCarthy" and should be contacted for any changes.

4.) Franklin Sigler (1924-1995) signed first day cover postmarked February 23, 1990, Cheyenne, WY. Inscribed with rank as "Franklin E. Sigler MOH/ Co. F, 2/26th Marines/ 5th Marine Division/ Iwo Jima/ 14 March 1945". Received both the Medal of Honor and Purple Heart. Cover measures 6.5" x 3.5", PSA encapsulated to an overall size of 9.5" x 4.5".

5.) Holland M. "Howlin Mad" Smith (1882-1967) first day cover postmarked July 11, 1945, Washington, D.C. Signed at lower right as "H.M. Smith". Dubbed the father of modern amphibious warfare, Smith notably served as the overall Marine commander at Iwo Jima. Cover measures 6.5" x 3.75", PSA encapsulated to an overall size of 9.5" x 4.5".

Unless otherwise indicated, we do our own in-house world-wide shipping!

Applicable shipping and handling charges will be added to the invoice. We offer several shipping options, and remain one of the few auction houses that proudly provides professional in-house shipping as an option to our clients. All items will ship with a signature required option, and full insurance. Most items are sent via Federal Express, with P. O. Box addresses being sent through USPS. We insure through Berkley Asset Protection with rates of $.70 per $100 of value, among the lowest insurance rates in the industry. Our shipping department cameras document every package, both outgoing and incoming, for maximum security. In addition, we compare our shipping and handling rates against those of other auction houses, to ensure that our charges are among the lowest in the trade.

Upon winning your item(s), you will receive an invoice with our in-house shipping and handling fees included. ***We will ship to the address as it appears on your invoice. If any changes to the shipping address need to be made, you must inform us immediately.***

International shipments: In order to comply with our insurance provider, all international shipments will be sent via Fed Ex and customs paperwork will show a value of $1.00. International buyers should contact our office directly with any questions regarding this policy.

Third-Party Shipping Option: If a third-party shipper is preferred, the buyer is responsible for contacting them directly to make shipping arrangements. For your convenience, we have provided some recommended shippers. For your protection, we will require a signed release from you, confirming your authorization for us to release your lots to your specified third-party. At that point, our responsibility and insurance coverage for your item(s) ceases. Items picked up by third-party shippers are required to pay Connecticut sales tax. Items requiring third-party shipping due to being oversized, fragile or bulky will be denoted in the item description.
