Battle of Gettysburg Souvenirs, A Great 5-pc Collection!

A lot of mostly late-nineteenth-century souvenirs commemorating the Battle of Gettysburg, five pieces total. The Battle of Gettysburg engaged Union General George G. Meade's Army of the Potomac and Confederate General Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania on July 1-3, 1863. The artifacts demonstrate how the battle--one of the bloodiest in the Civil War, and also one of the most significant turning points of the conflict--was memorialized in subsequent decades.

The lot includes:

- A toleware (painted metal) platter, entitled "General View / of the / Battlefield of Gettysburg, / 1863", depicting the battlefield dotted with postwar equestrian statues and other monuments. A trompe l'oeil foliate border encircles the central vignette. Scattered surface loss recto. Isolated rust and scratches verso. Else very good. 16.75" wide.

- A souvenir tomahawk whose blade is stamped "Gettysburg / July 1, 2, 3, 1863. / Wood from / Picket's Charge" and whose handle is stamped "Big Round Top". (Picket's Charge took place on July 3, 1863. Big Round Top is the topographical high point of the Gettysburg battlefield.) Expected surface wear including nicks, else very good. 11.25" long.

- A souvenir wooden revolver whose barrel, rammer, and cylinder are stamped with the following battlefield landmarks: Culp's Hill, Big Round Top, Little Round Top, and Devil's Den. Also stamped "July 1, 2, 3, 1863" and "Wheat field / Gettysburg." Minor loss where the trigger guard meets the grip, minor alligatoring, and expected wear. Else very good. 9.75" long.

- An "Historic Gettysburg" paper fan depicting a color printed portrait of Confederate General Robert E. Lee. Scattered discoloration recto and verso, else very good. 11.25" tall.

- A commemorative bronze finished paperweight marking the centennial anniversary of the battle. Two bas relief portraits of George G. Meade and Robert E. Lee recto, and a military montage verso. Nice patina. 2.5" in diameter.
