Baseball Hall of Famers, 5 Pieces, Dealers' Lot Featuring Mantle & Mack

A superb collection of baseball memorabilia from the Golden Age of professional baseball, featuring photos, letters, notes, and postcards signed by Mickey Mantle, Connie Mack, Bill Terry, and Lefty Grove.

The lot is comprised of:

1. 8" x 10" glossy black and white photographic print of professional baseball player Mickey Mantle (1931-1995), inscribed and signed by him as "To Frank / Best Wishes / Mickey Mantle" at center. A few superficial wrinkles, else near fine. The photo shows Mantle posing in his New York Yankees uniform; he played 1st baseman and center fielder for the team between 1951-1968.  The slugger was a multiple times MVP, All-Star, World Series champion, batting champion, and home run leader. He was induced into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1974.

2. A full-page magazine photo of Cornelius McGillicuddy aka Connie Mack (1862-1956), signed by him as "Connie Mack" at upper right. The photo was removed from a period magazine, and shows Mack seated at a desk complete with a brass-finished baseball pen rest. A few expected folds and wrinkles, else near fine, with surprisingly bright colors. 8.125" x 10.75". Mack began his baseball career as a catcher in the 1880s, but he is best known for managing the Philadelphia Athletics between 1901-1950. Mack was elected into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1937.

3. 1p TLS by Connie Mack (1862-1956), signed by him as "Connie Mack" at center. Written in Fort Myers, Florida, presumably during spring training, on March 22, 1936. On watermarked cream paper with "American Base Ball Club of Philadelphia" letterhead featuring an elephant balancing on a baseball and two crossed bats at top. In this letter to a fan, Mack wrote in part: "Am especially pleased to know that Charles Junior and yourself are still interested in our club. I hope you will not be too disappointed in us the coming season. With fair pitching and a good catcher I believe we would have a pretty good ball club." Expected light paper folds, else near fine. 8.5" x 11".

4. Postcard signed by William "Memphis Bill" Terry (1898-1989) as "Wm H (Bill) Terry" verso. Postmarked from Jacksonville, Florida on February 8, 1954. A few expected wrinkles. Terry was first baseman and manager of the New York Giants between 1923-1941. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1954.

5. Autograph of Robert "Lefty" Grove (1900-1975), signed as "Lefty Grove" on a paper fragment with "Hotel Kings-Way" (St. Louis, Missouri) letterhead. A few wrinkles and a closed tear along the bottom edge not affecting the signature. Isolated discoloration. Trimmed, 6" x 3.625". Accompanied by an envelope. Grove is considered one of the best pitchers in professional baseball. He was elected into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1947.
