Description:

Barack Obama Signed Souvenir Copy of Controversial Birth Certificate

1p, measuring 5.75" x 8.5", Honolulu, Hawaii, dated April 25, 2011, in the lower left corner and reflecting the former President's birth date of August 4, 1961. This souvenir copy of President Obama's birth certificate is boldly signed in black felt tip pen "B Obama". While the birth certificate is a copy of the original, the authentic signature of Obama has been applied at the center of the paper.

The controversy known as “The birther movement” began during Obama’s 2008 Presidential campaign when news reports surrounding the former president's birthplace and citizenship came into question. Many, including the former President's brother Malik and the 45th President Donald Trump, would claim that Obama was ineligible to run for president because they believed he was not a natural-born citizen of the United States.

The issue would fizzle out near the end of Trump’s run for the presidency in 2016 when Trump held a press conference to announce that he believed that Obama was in fact born in the U.S. after a certified copy of Obama's Certificate of Live Birth (or long-form certificate) was released. It is a copy of this long-form certificate which has been prominently signed by the 44th President of the United States.

The story is still a controversial issue today, especially for the Obama family. The former First Lady Michelle Obama writes in her memoir “Becoming” that President Donald Trump's promotion of the so-called birther movement is something she will "never forgive him for."
