Description:

B.B. King
Dallas, TX, ca. early 1960s
B.B. King Signed Handwritten "Everything But You" Lyrics - Virtually Unknown Classic Blues Song
AMS

A 2pp autograph manuscript, being the lyrics to a blues song co-authored by B.B. King (1925-2015) and his frequent collaborator Ferdinand "Fats" Washington (1927-1970), entirely handwritten by King, and signed by him as "B B King" at the top of the page. Totaling approximately 152 words in King's hand. N.d., n.p. Penned on both sides of a single sheet of double hole-punched blue-lined red-ruled paper. Expected wear including flattened transmittal folds and a few extra wrinkles. Isolated chipped edges including minor loss to the bottom hole punch. Scattered stains faded to negligible but mentioned just for accuracy. Else very good. 8" x 10."

The song "Everything But You" co-authored by two blues giants is shockingly virtually unknown, making it an exciting discovery indeed. Although there are instances of King's rather idiosyncratic spelling and punctuation used throughout the manuscript, the absence of any edits suggests it is a mature version of the song. King has made two dashes in the margin next to lines 5 of Stanza 1 and Stanza 2, and he has also made a large instrumentation annotation at the bottom of the page.

In full, with unchanged spelling and punctuation:

I've been told that I'ed Forget you

B.B. King was a singer, songwriter, record producer, and, according to a Rolling Stone's poll, one of the top 100 best guitarists of all time. "Everything But You" appears to be a deep cut from the blues icon's vast collection of musical compositions. The 15-times Grammy winner and inductee to the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame and the Blues Hall of Fame produced over 50 albums over his nearly century-long career.
