Ayn Rand's Personal Signed "Privilege Card" for Chemical Bank, Now the Largest Bank in the United States! PSA Gem MT 10
DS
A fine and very symbolic piece, a "Privilege Card" for the Chemical Bank of New York (now Chase Bank), dated June, 1968, signed "Ayn Rand" at bottom. Measures 3 x 2.25 in. PSA encapsulated to 5.25 x 3 inches and graded an incredible Gem MT 10! The only other one we know to exist sold in our last auction for $9,375!

Ayn Rand (1905-1982) was a Russian-born author who famously espoused an ‘objectivist' philosophy and celebration of capitalism is the highest example of a moral social system. Her novels and philosophical works, including "The Fountainhead" and "Atlas Shrugged" take place among the most influential, if controversial, works of the twentieth-century.

The Chemical Bank in New York was the principal operating subsidiary of Chemical Banking Corporation. In 1966, it acquired Chase Bank, and became the largest bank in the United States — a capitalist victory that Rand no doubt celebrated.

Rand was deeply committed to the philosophy of capitalism and free enterprise. But for Rand, far from being a selfish system of exploitation and opportunism as it was characterized by the Left, capitalism constitutes the most moral of social systems in which the government has no purchase on or intervention in the economy.

In November, 1967, just months after this card was signed, Rand gave her watershed lecture about capitalism anthologized in "Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal" and in which she postulated her most famous statement: "Capitalism is a social system based on the recognition of individual rights, including property rights, in which all property is privately owned."
