Atomic Bomb: Tibbets, Sweeney, Albury & Olivi Signed Photos - Superb!

A small archive of photographs signed by four "Enola Gay" and "Bockscar" crew members: Paul W. Tibbets, Charles W. Sweeney, Charles "Don" Albury, and Frederick J. Olivi. The modern photographs were printed on glossy paper, measuring 8" x 10." Near fine.

Tibbets piloted the B-29 bomber "Enola Gay" which dropped the atomic boy "Little Boy" over Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. Sweeney, Albury, and Olivi were aircraft commander and co-pilots respectively of the B-29 bomber "Bockscar" (also spelled "Bock's Car") which deployed the atomic bomb "Fat Man" over Nagasaki on August 9, 1945.

The archive includes:

1. A color photograph depicting crew members and reporters in front of a bomber plane, signed and inscribed by Colonel Paul W. Tibbets (1915-2007) as "Paul Tibbets, Pilot / To Hiroshima, Japan / 6 Aug. 1945" at lower left.

2. 4. A black and white photograph showing Major Charles W. Sweeney (1919-2004) smoking a celebratory cigar in the cockpit, signed and inscribed by him as "Maj. Chas W Sweeney / A/C Bock's Car / 9 Aug. 45" at left.

3. A black and white photograph showing Captain Charles "Don" Albury (1920-2009) in the cockpit, signed and inscribed by him as "To my friend Ben / Capt. CD Albury / Pilot 'Bockscar' / Nagasaki Aug. 9, 1945" at lower left.

4. A black and white photograph depicting Second Lieutenant Frederick J. Olivi (1922-1989) in the cockpit, signed and inscribed by him as "Lt / Fred J Olivi / Co-pilot B-29 / 'Bockscar' / 9 August / 1945" at lower right.

Applicable shipping and handling charges will be added to the invoice. All items will ship with signature required, and full insurance. Most items are sent via Federal Express, with P. O. Box addresses being sent through USPS. We insure through Berkley Asset Protection with rates of $.70 per $100 of value, among the lowest insurance rates in the industry. Our shipping department cameras document every package, both outgoing and incoming, for maximum security. In addition, we compare our shipping and handling rates against those of other auction houses, to ensure that our charges are among the lowest in the trade.
