An archive of more than 70 negatives and contact sheets obtained directly from the estate of Arthur Rickerby, mostly large format (5" x 4") dating from the beginning of his career at ACME/UPI in the 1940s. Includes negatives of his coverage of the 1948 Republican Convention, Harry Truman at Fordham University in 1946, Cardinal Spellman, the United Nation, and much more. Also with the lot are three black & white photos (each 5" x 3.5") of Muhammad Ali printed in June 1978 attributed to Rickerby and two contact sheets labeled "Maryland Lacrosse 1959 Rickerby" (10.5" x 13.25") bearing Rickerby's studio stamp. Most of the negatives are stored in sleeves marked in an unknown hand. Overall condition very good but should be reviewed.

Arthur Rickerby (1921–1974) was a prominent American photojournalist who covered major political figures, cultural events, and international news in the mid-20th century. Beginning his career in the 1940s with ACME/UPI, Rickerby photographed numerous leading personalities and historic moments, including political conventions, world leaders, and sports figures. His most memorable image is his dramatic photograph of Cassius Clay towering over Sonny Liston during their 1965 heavyweight title bout. Rickerby's work was instrumental in creating a visual record of American public life during the post-World War II era.

Lot includes:

1. Nineteen negatives taken during the 1948 Republican Convention. There are images of delegates on the floor, demonstrations of support for Thomas Dewey, Robert Taft, Harold Stassen, and William Langer.

2. Ten negatives of Harry Truman delivering an address at Fordham University upon receiving an honorary degree on May 11, 1946.

3. Four negatives of Cardinal Spellman at a church ceremony after returning to NY up elevation to Cardinal in March 1946.

4. Twenty-five negatives of spectators at the United Nations, of which two show Andrei Gromyko.

5. Five negatives of Dwight Eisenhower on election night 1952.

6. Five negatives Douglas MacArthur's NYC Parade in 1951.

7. 6 negatives titled New York City Awards ceremony.

The lot also includes later prints of Richard Nixon, football-related photos, Mamie Eisenhower and more!

Unless otherwise indicated, we do our own in-house world-wide shipping!

Applicable shipping and handling charges will be added to the invoice. We offer several shipping options, and remain one of the few auction houses that proudly provides professional in-house shipping as an option to our clients. All items will ship with a signature required option, and full insurance. Most items are sent via Federal Express, with P. O. Box addresses being sent through USPS. We insure through Berkley Asset Protection with rates of $.70 per $100 of value, among the lowest insurance rates in the industry. Our shipping department cameras document every package, both outgoing and incoming, for maximum security. In addition, we compare our shipping and handling rates against those of other auction houses, to ensure that our charges are among the lowest in the trade.

Upon winning your item(s), you will receive an invoice with our in-house shipping and handling fees included. ***We will ship to the address as it appears on your invoice. If any changes to the shipping address need to be made, you must inform us immediately.***

International shipments: In order to comply with our insurance provider, all international shipments will be sent via Fed Ex and customs paperwork will show a value of $1.00. International buyers should contact our office directly with any questions regarding this policy.

Third-Party Shipping Option: If a third-party shipper is preferred, the buyer is responsible for contacting them directly to make shipping arrangements. For your convenience, we have provided some recommended shippers. For your protection, we will require a signed release from you, confirming your authorization for us to release your lots to your specified third-party. At that point, our responsibility and insurance coverage for your item(s) ceases. Items picked up by third-party shippers are required to pay Connecticut sales tax. Items requiring third-party shipping due to being oversized, fragile or bulky will be denoted in the item description.
