Description:

Andrew Jackson Signed Missouri Land Deed, Superb!

A 1p land deed boldly signed by 7th U.S. President Andrew Jackson (1767-1845) as "Andrew Jackson" at lower right. Recorded at Washington, D.C. on November 10, 1830. The partly printed and partly manuscript document on vellum is countersigned along the bottom by Elijah Hayward (1786-1864), Commissioner of the United States General Land Office between 1830-1835. Docketed verso. Bearing a beautifully intact embossed United States General Land Office seal at lower left. Expected wear including folds and two tiny isolated breaks along the left vertical seam. Some of the clerk's handwriting has faded but Jackson's signature is large and bold, measuring 5.5" x .5" alone. The signed document measures 15.625" x 9.75" overall.

Certificate No. 1754 granted 107 acres of land in St. Louis County, Missouri to Nicholas Tomlinson. The land extended from "the North West fractional quarter of Section Eighteen, in Township forty-five, of Range Six East in the District of lands offered for sale at St. Louis, Missouri containing one hundred seven acres." This tract was located west of the city of St. Louis, approximately equidistant between the Missouri River to the west and the Mississippi River to the east.

The U.S. Department of Interior Bureau of Land Management General Land Office Records includes this November 10, 1830 land deed for Nicholas Tomlinson. The same online resource shows that Tomlinson also purchased two additional tracts, one of 85.14 acres in St. Louis County in April 1829, and one of 80 acres further west in Warren County in September 1838. Missouri had joined the Union in 1821.
