A full member of the National Academy is elected from the highest ranks of American artists and architects. Members are identified using "NA" (National Academician) after the member's signature. "Declared a National Historic Landmark in 1965, the Winslow Homer Studio is the studio and home of the artist Winslow Homer, located on what is now Winslow Homer Road on Prouts Neck in Scarborough, Maine. His family's carriage house was altered for Winslow Homer in 1884 by Maine architect John Calvin Stevens who even moved the building 100 feet for added privacy from his brother's home. During the winter, Homer often painted from the balcony, the width of the house. Winslow Homer moved from Manhattan to Scarborough in 1884, living and painting there for the rest of his life. His father, Charles Homer, Sr., for whom Thomas Murrey worked, lived next door.

Among the watercolors completed by Winslow Homer in 1892 were The Blue Boat, Hound and Hunter, On the Trail, and Boy Fishing.
